More Evidence of Drupal's Rising Star

Drupal Capital Camp

Here are some of my high-level reflections on CapitalCamp DC this weekend:

As always, the energy, interest, and momentum that Drupal continues to gain is so encouraging to me. It's exciting to see the broad ecosystem of interested parties that attribute Drupal as a key factor in their continued success online. Drupal is being used in many important - and varied - ways. We've known it for years, but the evidence is everywhere now; Drupal is much much more than content management or "social publishing."

Drupal is an enabler and accelerator:

  • Organizations like the Pan American Health Organization revamped how hospital safety tracking is accomplished at the country level across Latin and South America
  • It powers professional networks that are making a real impact in education, health, and world economics - assess4ed.net, World Economic Forum and more
  • It transforms how large government agencies turn their data into platforms (for instance, data.ed.gov, recovery.commerce.gov, and many others)

Hats off to the organizers and sponsors that made it all possible, and to all of you that continue to contribute, extend, and transform not just the software, but really, the world. To me, that's exciting.

I agree, the Drupal

I agree, the Drupal development is breathtaking. I started a project - my very first, large Intranet development - in April last year, and many of my used modules have strongly evolved or have been published for the first time during that year. It also means, though, that checking out new and updated modules can be quite time-consuming, afais. We have a few custom developments, but most of our project is out of the box - okay, a rather large box by now, but still a box, and Views, CCK, OG and Panels definitely saved my life :)
