Rappelling for Special Olympics Washington

Printer-friendly version

This weekend I joined almost 200 other fundraisers and rappelled down the side of the 41-story Rainier Tower in Seattle, Washington. The event raised over $233,000 for Special Olympics Washington

Special Olympics works to improve the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports training and athletic competition, to create a more accepting and inclusive world. More than 7,000 athletes of all ages participate in Special Olympics Washington activities, which are made possible entirely through donations and volunteer efforts.

Each participant raised a minimum of $1,000 in pledges to secure a spot in the event. My rappel was sponsored by my friends, family, Forum One co-workers, and members of the Drupal community. I had set a little wager to sweeten the deal: if I could exceed the minimum pledge, I would wear zebra striped spandex for the event. Guess what, I had to wear the stripes.

Over the Edge hosts once-in-a-lifetime opportunities rappelling down buildings throughout the country as a way for nonprofits to raise money.
