Motion Graphics Delight

Motion Graphics

As humans, we are visual creatures. We understand information best when presented visually (versus verbally). Below we discuss and share examples of how trends have shifted over time in the quest to communicate data effectively.

First there was Edward Tufte who revolutionized how information (particularly data) was presented on paper and screens. To learn more about Tufte's perspective on visual literacy and information design, visit edwardtufte.com.

Then there was Hans Rosling's Gapminder, whose gapcasts helped drive the popularity of data visualization tools. I particularly like the New York Times representation of olympic medals won over the years.

In the last couple of years, we've seen another trend gain momentum. Motion graphics are graphics that use video and/or animation technology to create the illusion of motion or a transforming appearance. These motion graphics are usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects (source: Wikipedia)
