U.S. agencies are being asked to become more transparent, collaborative, and participatory while doing more with less. Achieving this mission requires a thoughtful and well-executed digital communications strategy.

We have the knowledge and expertise to help government agencies achieve the ambitious and important goals outlined in the Open Government Initiative. For more than 13 years, we have helped organizations improve web sites, engage constituencies, expand participation, and make data more accessible and valuable.

We are intimately familiar with the structure, organization, and needs of public sector organizations and understand what it will take to live up to the promise of a "new era of openness," including overcoming the culture roadblocks presented by a government that has traditionally operated in silos, emphasized secrecy, and lacked the technical infrastructure and incentives that foster collaboration.

We Can Help You:

  • Comply with the Open Government Directive: the directive sets explicit time lines for accomplishing specific objectives – including developing a detailed open-government plan within 120 days.
  • Develop a data plan: identify candidate data sets that are well-suited for publication to data.gov and other sources. We'll help you determine the best way to format and present such data.
  • Develop and document a practical open government strategy: meet both OMB’s objectives as well as your organizational and budgetary realities.
  • Enhance information sharing: open communication channels between your agency and its stakeholders and constituents.
  • Build a participatory web site: create a solution that welcomes citizen participation and serves as a model of openness and transparency.
  • Outline a strategic roadmap: take advantage of easy wins while setting realistic long-range goals.

We are recognized as thought leaders in the open government conversation through our our sponsorship and participation in Gov 2.0 for Decision-Makers, Congress Camp, Gov 2.0 Expo, eDemocracy Camp2, Transparency Camp, Open Development Bar Camp, and Open Government: "Strategies and Tactics from the Playbook."

We have taken action to be part of the solution by building our own tools for government transparency and citizen participation. Our winning entries in the "Apps for America"and "Apps for America 2" contests, Legistalker and DataMasher, both present government data in a format that easy to digest and use.

We are excited to partner with agencies to improve their open government capacity, expand their online services, and ultimately build a better democracy.
