Usability Audits

The Supreme Council of Information Communication and Technology for the Government of Qatar is in charge of technology innovation and implementation throughout the country. The Council turned to us to help assess the usability and accessibility of Qatar's government portal, which allows citizens, residents, industries, and visitors to find information on Qatar, and to complete online transactions such as applying for a resident permit, renewing a driving license, or paying a water bill.

Forum One completed an extensive usability audit/heuristic review to assess the site's baseline functionality and identify opportunities for improvement. The review demonstrated that users experienced significant difficulty finding site content and found the site’s structure and organization unclear. The review included recommendations to optimize the portal’s design, navigation, and usability; expand online services; improve the presentation, categorization, and efficacy of its language; and strengthen its ability to deliver critical resources and tools to users. We also documented user needs and behavior by conducting usability testing with English- and Arabic-speaking stakeholders. These tests supplemented and validated the usability audit's findings. Once the findings were submitted and reviewed, we conducted a card-sorting exercise to help develop the site map and ensure clear terminology usage. The Council plans to use Forum One’s recommendations as a basis for its overall site redesign and to partner with Forum One for a second phase of testing.
