Born in Houston and raised 30 minutes from the beach at Galveston, Kat grew up surrounded by astronauts, engineers, hurricanes, and chicken fried steak. Along the way, the policy bug bit, so she moved to Washington for school and work.
Kat has a bachelor’s degree in Political Communication from George Washington University and has almost completed a master’s in Public Policy, with a focus on gender and health, also from GW. She managed social media accounts and the website for Global Health Council, where she also contributed to the council’s magazine and blog. She did research for the Reference Information Group at CQ Group, working on such volumes as the Encyclopedia of Indian Policy, New York Times on Emerging Democracy, and Separatist Movements (definitely books for the policy lovers among us!).
As an Internet Research Analyst, Kat draws on her education and experience. She assists in audience analysis and research, content development, and the many other aspects of a successful online project.
Kat also has her lighter side. She considers learning to play the Beer Barrel Polka on the accordion a particularly noteworthy accomplishment. She recalls not too fondly a summer job a few years back, when she sold kitchen knives door to door. Her doggedness earned her a spot as one of the top 100 sellers in Houston. Her bonus--a three-ring binder. No wonder she realized she needed another avenue for her talents!
You may not know: She is a first-generation American on one side of her family. Her mother is from Peru.
Her RSS feeds include: Social justice blogs, food and celebrities on Tumblr, and webcomics like Hark! A Vagrant and Cat & Girl
Her tags: Blogger, Policy wonk, Writer/Editor
