Predictions for 2017…

What We’re Talking About is a blog series featuring the articles, websites, topics, and trends that the Forum One team has been chatting about.

This week, we saw a lot of articles about trends—what we saw in 2016, and what folks are predicting for 2017. I think a lot of people would agree that this last year has been pretty rough all ‘round. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen folks so excited to have a new year roll around! So in celebration, let’s have a look into the crystal ball and have a look at some predictions for next year, shall we?

First up, Pantone has decided that 2017 will be year of renewal, a refreshing change to a 2016 that was a slog for many. So accordingly, their color of the year for 2017 is Greenery, a bright, “zesty” green that they hope cheers everyone up. While it’s only a symbolic choice, I’m certainly a fan of the green, particular when they pair it up with some other shades in the recommended color palettes. Here’s hoping this green brings a brighter, “zestier” year!

Landor released their 2017 brand trends, covering everything from millennials “kidadulting” to a trend they’re called “phygital” (can we all agree that’s a terrible word and we’ll collectively come up with something better?). With the exception of some poor naming choices, it’s pretty interesting list, and we can certainly see some of these predictions coming true.

Finally, Webflow published a list of 18 web design trends for the coming year. This is a really great peak into the mind of some design and development folks, and a lot in line with our thinking here at Forum One. Amongst others, we’re definitely on board with #2 & #3 (we even had a webinar about it!). Check out the list and see which prediction is your favorite.

We can predict and muse all day long about what’s coming next year, but only time will tell what new innovations and trends we see. Thankfully, 2016 is drawing to a close and we’ll soon have that fresh new start. What trends are you hoping become popular in 2017?
